Discover the unique "Lucky Strike Mine" hidden beneath Josephine's Gallery.
Take a self-guided tour or be escorted underground by an opal miner for a more informative experience.
The Lucky Strike Mine was mined using three different mining methods - Tunnelling machine, excavator and hand.
The Museum section of the mine houses unique opal specimens from most Australian opal fields as well as fossils, whilst the mining section still has opal in the wall where it was formed millions of years ago.
Entry to the opal mine is via our opal showroom with a stunning array of opals and opal jewellery available for purchase, including the legendary 'black opal'.
Josephine began mining in the mid 1980's whilst Terry began his career in this industry only a couple of years later. Both have a vast knowledge of mining, cutting, polishing and setting opals. We bring the opal direct from the ground to you.
Josephine's Gallery is the largest Aboriginal Art Gallery in regional South Australia with stunning works by world renowned and local artists. We have an extensive range of didgeridoos, boomerangs and other artifacts.
