History:

Twice Mini Gems has almost closed its doors, the first time February 1999 and the second time in August 2003.  Mini Gems is still successfully operating after many ups and downs, probably none as drastic as 4 years ago when we were operating from week to week.  The Commonwealth Department of Families and Community Services (FACS) had advised us at the time that we should probably close as we were unable to continue as we were.  This was when the community rallied together and the District Council of Coober Pedy came to the rescue!  The community also rallied around us- including the Coober Pedy Lions Club, Police Social Club, the Golf Club and many other businesses and individuals from our town and its surrounds. (written previously by Ceinwen Grose).

Mini Gems turned the corner whent he District Council of Coober Pedy took over and supported Mini Gems in January 2004.  It is now run by a management committee consisting of parents, staff members and the District Council of Coober Pedy.
