Community Services

Council provide School and Community Library, Swimming Pool, Child Care, Children and Parenting Support and Early Childhood Education and Care Outreach Project through the Community Services department.

School and Community Library

The School and Community Library is jointly funded through SA Library, the Department for Education and Council.

The Library is open from

  • Monday to Thursday 8:30am to 5:30pm
  • Friday 8:30am to 4:00pm
  • Sunday 12:00pm to 5:00pm

Swimming Pool

The Swimming Pool is funded through the Department for Education and operated by Council.  The Pool season is open from the end of 3rd Term to the end of the 1st Term the following year, over the summer season.

The Swimming Pool is open from

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 3:15pm to 8:00pm
  • Wednesday 2:15pm to 8:00pm
  • Saturday and Sunday 1:00pm to 8:00pm
  • Closes at 9:00pm during Daylight savings

MINI GEMS CHILDREN’S CENTRE

Mini Gems is an Accredited Long Day Care Centre catering for children between 6 weeks and preschool children.

CHILDREN AND PARENTING SUPPORT PROGRAM

Children and Parenting (CaPS) Supports early intervention and prevention services and resources that are aimed at improving children’s development and well being and supporting the capacity of those in a parenting role. The service has a primary focus on children aged 0-12 but may include children up to the age of 18.

CaPS Facilitates its programs out of the Youth Shed building and supports other Child and Parenting programs & activities in Coober Pedy.

Early childhood education and care outreach project

The Early Childhood Education and Care Outreach Project commonly known as the “Outreach Project”. The program focuses on developing and implementing an outreach service to support increased numbers of children attending childcare and increase family engagement.  Work with relevant stakeholders to identify and address the barriers that prevent families and communities from accessing childcare.
