Council owns the Coober Pedy Aerodrome and as such is responsible for its maintenance and care.
The aerodrome is licensed and in order to meet the stringent safety standards, it must be checked daily and requires regular maintenance such as cleaning of lights, markings and markers, sweeping of the runway, taxiway and buildings, grading, rolling, slashing and poisoning of vegetation within the airport runaway and taxiway perimeters.

Regional Express (REX) currently runs passenger services in and out of Coober Pedy 6 Days a week.
