Pursuant to Sections 153(1)(b) and 156(1)(a) of the Local Government Act 1999, declared differential general rates on land within its area for the 2019-20 financial year varying according to the use of the land as follows:

Land Use 1                 Residential                     0.4471 cents in the dollar

Land Use 2                 Commercial – Shop         1.4107 cents in the dollar

Land Use 3                 Commercial – Office        1.4107 cents in the dollar

Land Use 4                 Commercial – Other        1.4107 cents in the dollar

Land Use 5                 Industry Light                1.4107 cents in the dollar

Land Use 6                 Industry – Other            1.4107 cents in the dollar

Land Use 8                 Vacant Land                   0.2756 cents in the dollar

Land Use 9                 Other                             1.4107 cents in the dollar

Pursuant to Section 152(1)(c)(ii) of the Local Government Act 1999, declared that a fixed charge of $427.50 will apply to all rateable land within the Council’s area for the 2019-20  financial year.

Service Charges

Water Service Charges (Paid on Rates Notice)

Pursuant to Section 155 of the Local Government Act 1999, Council proposes that a water service charge in the form of an access charge be set for the 2019-20 financial year and that the access charge is to be included on the rate notice.

  • Vacant Land (Land Use 8) - $179 p.a.
  • Residential & Other (Land Use 1 & 9) - $225 p.a.
  • Business with usage last year less than 300 kilolitres (Land Use 2-6) - $444 p.a.
  • Commercial with usage last year over 300 kilolitres (Land Use 2-6) - $843 p.a.

The amount collected will only be expended on the operation and maintenance of the community water supply.

Sewerage Service Charge

Council has a declared a service rate in that part of the District Council of Coober Pedy within the “Defined Area” for the purposes of the Coober Pedy sewerage scheme. That rate shall be 0.004066 cents in the dollar of the capital value of the land.

Natural Resources Management (NRM) Levy

The NRM levy is collected from the ratepayers on behalf of the State Government. The levy will be $63.95 per rateable property.
