General Information

Pursuant to Sections 153(1)(b) and 156(1)(a) of the Local Government Act 1999, declared differential general rates on land within its area for the 2023-24 financial year varying according to the use of the land as follows:

Pursuant to Section 152(1)(c)(ii) of the Local Government Act 1999, declared that a fixed charge of $100 will apply to all rateable land within the Council’s area for the 2023-24  financial year.

The rates are payable quarterly and due on:

  • 1st Payment  12 September 2023
  • 2nd Payment 4 December 2023
  • 3rd Payment  4 March 2024
  • 4th Payment  3 June 2024

Rates searches

Who can apply?

For the purposes of ordering a Search, the Local Government Act 1999 (Section 187) states that a person has an interest in land if, and only if that person is:

  • the owner of a registered estate or interest in the land; or
  • an occupier of the land; or
  • a person who has entered or declares to the Council that he or she proposes to enter into a contract to purchase the land; or
  • a mortgagee or prospective mortgagee of the land.

Search fees

Rates for Section 7 and 187 searches are set by the state government. As per Government Gazettes, the fees for the 2023-24 Financial year are set at:

  • Section 187: $39.00 per assessment, 48 hour turnaround;
  • Section 7: $66.75 ($27.75 per title + $39 per assessment), with 8 day turnaround;
  • Urgent Section 7: $80.50 ($41.50 per title + $39 per assessment), 24 hours turnaround.

How to apply?

We provide Council Rates Searches (Section 7) under Section 7 of the Land and Business (Sale and Conveyancing) Act 1994 and Chapter 10 of the Local Government Act 1999.

So you can successfully lodge your search request, email dccp@cpcouncil.sa.gov.au with the following information for each request:

  1. a copy of the relevant certificate(s) of title
  2. the purpose of the request and what relationship the requestor has with the subject land
  3. payment details or contact details to pay over the phone
  4. the type of search required (full standard search or rates only).

Service Charges

Water Service Charges (Paid on Rates Notice)

Pursuant to Section 155 of the Local Government Act 1999,  a water service charge of $302.75 in the form of an access charge is set for the 2023-24 financial year and the access charge is included on the rate notice.

The amount collected will only be expended on the operation and maintenance of the community water supply.

Sewerage Service Charge

Council charges residents that have access to the sewerage scheme. The charge is charged via the rates with a service charge.

For Financial Year 2023-24, the charge is 0.6081 cents in the dollar of the capital value of the land.

Natural Resources Management (NRM) Levy

The NRM levy is collected from the ratepayers on behalf of the State Government. The levy is $45.35 per rateable property (residential, vacant land and other) and $90.69 for the other land use, for Financial Year 2023-24.
