Electricity Meter Preventative Maintenance:
Council’s Electricity Department is undertaking routine preventative maintenance and safety and compliance checks of electricity meters across the community.
These checks are ongoing and may occur at properties on a random or scheduled basis. Council electricity staff may attend your property to inspect the electricity meter and associated equipment to ensure it is operating safely and remains compliant.
If you see Council electricity staff at your property, please be assured that they are carrying out routine maintenance checks.
Electricity Meter Isolator Switch:
The electricity meter isolator is an important safety device that allows the electrical supply to the electricity meter to be safely isolated.
The isolator switch must remain in the ON position during normal operation. Keeping the isolator switch in the ON position also allows the electricity meter to maintain communication with Council’s systems, including the transmission of the meter readings and other meter information.
If you are leaving the property and wish to turn off the electricity while you are away, use the main switch or individual circuit breakers at the switchboard.
Electrical Shocks or Safety Concerns:
If you or anyone at the property experience an electric shock, tingling sensation or other suspected electrical fault associated with an appliance, wiring, switchboard or other electrical equipment, please report this to Council’s Electricity Department as soon as possible.
Electrical shocks and suspected electrical safety issues should be reported promptly so it can be assessed and appropriate action taken.
For immediate danger, please move away from the affected equipment and contact the appropriate emergency services and/or Electricity Supply On-Call Number.
